Hi,

I’m Eric van Leeuwen, LMT

I feel fortunate to do work in the world that supports my fellow humans in welcoming the gifts of freedom, health, and vitality into their lives. Through the practice of massage and bodywork, we have the opportunity to support the body’s innate potential for healing and growth. Whether you’re seeking to explore your body’s physical potential through sports or other wellness endeavors, or you’re recovering from injury, pain, or a stressful lifestyle, massage has the capacity to positively shift the way you’re experiencing your body and the life you live through it.

I have been enjoying the practice of massage since 2010. At the time, I was working a desk job at a finance company, and my body was not happy. I had aches and pains, I was always stressed out, and, frankly, I was often miserable stuck behind a computer in a cubicle. There was a massage school right next to the bus stop that took me to work every day - the San Francisco School of Massage. I felt an intuitive tug to explore their offerings, and decided to take a course in Swedish massage. I immediately resonated with this art form. It married my curiosities around matters of health and wellness, movement practices (I’m a yogi and former gymnast), science, and spirituality. To me, the study and practice of massage has become a deep inquiry into the phenomenon of being alive. Every session is an opportunity to more deeply touch into the unfolding mystery of existence that we collectively inhabit. I am perpetually curious and driven to explore what’s possible that I have yet to imagine.

In 2018, I began studying biodynamic massage and biodynamic cranial therapy with Todd Jackson in Portland, OR. This course of study has allowed me to interface with the body in a completely new way, sharpening my ability to listen to what’s happening in the moment, while deepening my capacity to be present with the person I’m working with. Previous to this, I have taken coursework in craniosacral therapy, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and zen shiatsu. I am also a Reiki master in the tradition of Mikao Usui. In 2015-2016 I spent several months in Southeast Asia, studying Thai-Yoga massage and other traditional healing modalities.

My practice of massage is inextricably connected to my personal practices of yoga, qi gong, and meditation. What I bring to my bodywork sessions is only possible because of the gifts these practices have brought to my life over the years. I offer my gratitude to all of the teachers who have dedicated their lives to these arts, and the efforts made to share what they have learned with the world.

Outside of my practices, I’m constantly seeking and exploring new adventures with movement. I enjoy the beautiful playground the PNW offers for hiking, water activities, biking, and running. You might also find me working to improve my handstand, where I enjoy playing with my body, and life, from an inverted perspective.

I look forward to working with you, exploring how massage and bodywork can help support you.
